As beautiful as Vermeer’s paintings are, when I look at them in real life (especially compared to other painters of the same era), I find them rather flat and lifeless. The colors themselves are gorgeous and the technique impeccable, but the women seem not alive- but a still life somehow is so much more vibrant, full of motion and color. Am I the only one who thinks this? What do you think?
